We are toy designers - Lesson 2 - Y3/Y4

Lesson Learning Objectives:  

  1. Children to decide the target audience of their computerised toy.
  2. Children to start brainstorming ideas about they type of toy to design.
  3. To sketch toy ideas using Microsoft Paint.
  4. Ext: To research the Scratch algorithms needed to programme the toy animation.

All children should be able to:


1 Look at your work from last week.

2 Decide what age group, gender (boy/girl) to design a toy for (target audience).

3 Brainstorm ideas for a toy to design.

4 Use Microsoft Paint to draw a picture of my design. 


Most Children should be able to:

1 Look at your work from last week.

2 Decide what age group, gender (boy/girl) to design a toy for (target audience).

3 Brainstorm ideas for a toy design.

4 Use Microsoft Paint to draw a picture of my design.

4 Self assess.


Some Children should be able to:

1 Look at your work form last week. 

2 Decide what age group, gender (boy/girl) to design a toy for (target audience).

3 Brainstorm ideas for a toy design in my Scrapbook. 

4 Use Microsoft Paint to draw a picture of my design.

5 To research what Scratch algorithms will be needed to produce an animation of my toy.

6 Self assess.

On your self assessment sheet, change the sad faces to smiley faces if you think you have achieved the objecitves
Lesson 2   - Y3/Y4

Task 1 – Explain that the children will be designing their own toy and making a animated scratch example of it

Task 2 –Show example of  toys found last week, children find their previous work on their computer.

Task 3 – Children to recall computer based toys on their “Ideas Scrapbook”

Task 4 – Children to decide what target audience they are designing their toy for.

Task 5 – Children to brainstorm  new toy ideas based upon their target audience in their scrapbook.

Task 6 - Children to draw their toy idea in Microsoft Paint.

Task 7 - Ext:  What algorithms will be needed to animate the toy in Scratch?
